A hair transplant procedure is a surgical technique designed to address hair loss or baldness by moving hair follicles from one part of the body, typically the back or sides of the scalp (known as the donor area), to areas with thinning or no hair, often the front or top of the scalp (known as the recipient area). This procedure is commonly used to restore natural hair growth, improve hair density, and enhance the overall appearance of the hair.
There are two primary methods of hair transplant:
- Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT): In this method, a strip of skin containing healthy hair follicles is surgically removed from the donor area. The strip is then dissected into individual follicular units, which are subsequently implanted into the recipient area. This technique leaves a linear scar at the donor site but is highly effective in transplanting a large number of grafts.
- Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE): FUE involves the extraction of individual hair follicles from the donor area using small, circular punches. These follicles are then carefully implanted into the recipient area. FUE is known for its minimal scarring and quicker recovery time compared to FUT.
Both methods aim to achieve natural-looking and long-lasting results. Hair transplant procedures are typically performed under local anesthesia, ensuring minimal discomfort during the surgery. After the procedure, there is a recovery period during which the transplanted hair sheds before regrowth begins, typically within a few months.
Hair transplant procedures have gained popularity as an effective and permanent solution for hair loss, offering individuals the opportunity to regain their natural hairline and improve their self-confidence.
